• Fasting instructions are given before surgery.
• You will be asked to arrange transport for returning home after surgery.

The various steps performed during cataract surgery include:

• The eye surgeon begins the process by dilating the pupil with medicated eye drops.
• This is followed by the administration of topical anesthesia to numb the eye. Mild sedation may be given to relax the patient, if needed.
• A small incision is made using a laser or a blade. The incision is usually tiny and does not need to be closed with sutures.
• The cloudy lens is then removed via phacoemulsification or extracapsular extraction.
• A folded IOL is then inserted. The IOL will unfold itself once it goes to its desired position.
• A protective shield or patch is applied over the treated eye.
