Cataract Surgery in Matunga

Before cataract surgery, the patient undergoes:

• Complete eye and health evaluation by our eye surgeon
• Accurate measurements to choose the right IOL power for you
• A discussion of the surgery type, lens options, and expected recovery after the procedure
• You will be asked to temporarily discontinue certain medications, like blood thinners, if needed
• Certain eye drops may be prescribed before surgery to prevent infection and swelling
• Clear instructions are provided about fasting before surgery
• You will be asked to arrange for transportation to safely take you home after the procedure

The surgery itself usually takes 10 to 60 minutes for each eye and includes the following steps:

• The eye doctor dilates the pupil using medicated drops
• Topical anesthesia is given to numb the eye and avoid discomfort during surgery. Mild sedation may be used to relax the patient if needed
• A tiny incision is made with a laser or a blade
• The cloudy lens is removed using phacoemulsification or other techniques
• A folded IOL is inserted by the eye surgeon, which unfolds inside the eye
• A protective eye shield or patch is placed on the treated eye after surgery

After the cataract surgery, the following can be expected:

• You will be under a short observation period (15 to 30 minutes) before discharge
• Temporary irritation, redness, or mild discomfort may occur
• Regular use of prescribed eye drops is recommended
• Avoid rubbing your eye, swimming, or heavy lifting during recovery
• Keep dust, soap, and water away from the healing eye
• Wear sunglasses outdoors and a protective shield while sleeping
