Cataract Surgery in Mahim

Before undergoing cataract surgery, you can expect the following:

• Detailed health and eye check-up by our skilled eye surgeon.
• Precise eye measurements are taken to select the correct IOL power for you.
• The eye surgeon will offer guidance on the different surgical techniques, IOL choices, potential risks and benefits, and recovery period after surgery.
• Pre-surgery eye drops are prescribed to prevent swelling and infection.
• You will be provided with instructions about fasting. 
• You will be asked to temporarily stop certain medications a few days before surgery.
• You need to arrange for a family member or friend to take you home after surgery.

The surgical procedure generally takes 10 to 60 minutes per eye and involves the following:

• The eye surgeon will first do pupil dilation with medicated eye drops.
• Topical anesthesia is provided to numb the eye being treated and prevent any kind of discomfort. In some cases, mild sedation may be provided to relax the patient.
• A small incision is created by the surgeon with a blade or a laser, depending on the surgical technique being used.
• The cloudy natural eye lens is then removed using phacoemulsification or other methods.
• This is followed by the placement of a folded IOL by the eye surgeon that unfolds inside the eye once it is in its place.
• A protective eye patch or shield is then placed on the treated eye.

You can expect the following after cataract surgery:

• You will be under observation for 15 to 30 minutes before going home.
• You can expect mild irritation, redness, or watering temporarily after surgery.
• Eye drops are prescribed after surgery.
• You should avoid swimming, rubbing your eyes, or lifting heavy weights during recovery.
• Avoid soap and water from entering your eye during the healing period.
• Wear sunglasses when going outdoors and a protective eye shield while sleeping.
• Follow-up visits are recommended to monitor healing progress.
