What is Contoura Vision

Contoura Vision: Advanced Laser Eye Surgery and its Side Effects

What is Contoura Vision?

The cornea is the clear and outermost layer of the eye. In some individuals, irregularities in its shape can occur instead of the regular shape of the sphere, causing light to focus either in front of or behind the retina rather than directly on it.

This misalignment will result in vision problems like farsightedness, nearsightedness, or astigmatism.

Contoura Vision, which is also referred to as topography-guided LASIK, is an advanced form of laser eye surgery. It uses cutting-edge technology to create a detailed map of the cornea and using it to identifying any irregularities.

This detailed mapping helps guide the laser during the procedure, thereby ensuring a highly customised treatment that corrects vision issues with accuracy.

How is Contoura Vision Surgery Performed?

The entire procedure of contoura vision is simple. The process is as follows,

  1. Before surgery, the eyes are mapped using a corneal topographer, which creates a 3D image to detect any irregularities and prepare a customised treatment.
  2. On the day of the surgery, a local anaesthesia is given to numb the eyes in the form of eye drops.
  3. The surgeon will create a small protective flap on the cornea using a femtosecond laser or a microkeratome.
  4. The corneal flap is lifted gently by the surgeon, and a contoura vision laser is used to reshape the cornea based on the personalised plan. The laser removes tiny amounts of corneal tissue to correct vision problems.
  5. After reshaping, the corneal flap is placed back onto the treated area. No stiches are applied as the incision heals on itself.
  6. The entire process is fast, the process is done on both the eyes on the same session. People see improved vision within a few days.

What are the Side Effects of Contoura Vision?

Post the surgery, the patient may feel some side effects which include,

  1. Dry eyes: One of the common side effects after Contoura Vision surgery is dry eyes, which can cause discomfort in people. Dry eyes usually improve within a few weeks.
  2. Glare or Halos: Some patients may see glare or halos around lights, mainly at night. This is a temporary issue and normally goes away with time.
  3. Increased light sensitivity: People may experience increased sensitivity to bright lights post the surgery. As eyes start to heal the sensitivity decreases and becomes normal.

In most cases, these side effects will come down and become normal within a few weeks as the eyes recover. Using prescribed eye drops and following the doctor’s advice can help with the healing process.

If these symptoms worsen or last longer than expected, it is advised to consult the doctor. To ensure proper recovery, it is better to visit the doctor for follow-ups.

How to Minimize the Side Effects of Contoura Vision?

People may experience side effects post the surgery. The post-surgery effects can be reduced by following the below,

  1. Experienced Surgeon: It is important to select a skilled and experienced eye surgeon who is well aware of the latest advancements in eye care. The surgeon can also explain Contoura Vision surgery, including any possible limitations or downsides.
  2. Follow-ups: It is advised to attend all the scheduled doctor visits before and after surgery. Having timely checkups help ensure that everything is healing well and that there are no major complications during the healing process.
  3. Post-operative care: It is recommended to follow all the instructions given by the doctor for the best results and to avoid any complications.
  4. Medications: The doctor will provide eye drops and antibiotics to prevent infections.
  5. Consultations: If any unusual symptoms like excessive swelling or redness are seen, the doctor needs to be consulted immediately before taking any medications.

Contoura vision is a safe procedure and serious complications after Contoura Vision surgery are uncommon. But in rare cases, some patients may experience more serious issues. To ensure a smooth recovery it is advised to be in touch with the doctor.
