Dr. B. T. Maskati, a leading Ophthalmologist, well known all over India, has an experience of over 45 years and is gifted with a healing hand. He served KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College as Honorary ophthalmic Surgeon, from where he retired as the head of Department. He was immediately made professor emeritus, a position he enjoys even today.
He has been awarded a number of oration gold medals at National and International conferences. He has published over 100 scientific papers and written chapters in several textbooks.
He is a founder member, National Board of examinations which awarded him the“OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD” IN 2000 – THE FIRST TIME EVER AWARDED TO AN EYE SURGEON and has been an examiner at almost all the universities in India for postgraduate examinations.
He was the first eye surgeon to be awarded the Life Time Achievement Award by the All India Ophthalmic society, in 2000. He has been a pioneer in conducting squint surgical camps since 1968 at a time when most people were unaware that squint could be successfully cured by surgery. He has been the expert in ophthalmology at the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical research) for over 20 years. He has been intimately connected with the National association for the Blind, being the chairman of their Prevention of Blindness Committee from 1989 to 1992.
He has been a sought after speaker and teacher at several conferences, and has represented India at several International congresses. Dedicated immensely to serve humanity, a very devoted Rotarian, experienced traveller, an orator par excellence and a great sense of humour - these are all part of his multifaceted personality.
